Deep Tissue Isn't Always Deep Pressure

Clearing Up a Common Massage Misconception

One of the biggest myths I hear in practice is:

"I need deep tissue - go as hard as you can."

But here's the truth:

Deep tissue massage isn't about how hard I press.

It's about how deep we work within your tissue layers - slowly, intentionally, and with precision.

So what is deep tissue?

Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and fascia, helping to release chronic tension, improve mobility, and correct patterns caused by posture, injury, or stress. But to reach those deeper layers, we don't need to grind or force our way in.

In fact, working too deep, to fast can cause your body to tense up, resist, or even feel pain afterward - which defects the purpose.

My approach?

I use a combination of:

  • Myofascial release to soften restrictions

  • Slow, sustained pressure to melt through layers gently

  • Breathwork and nervous system regulation to help your body receive the work

  • Lymphatic drainage to support circulation, reduce swelling, and encourage your body's natural healing processess

  • Cupping and stretching to support deep release without trauma

It's about working with your body, not against it.

Remember:

More pressure doesn't equal more effective.

More presence, skill, and intention?

That's where the real healing happens.

Curious if deep tissue is right for you?

Let's chat before your session - I'll always tailor the pressure and techniques to what hour body truly needs.
